intermitting , down shifting problem for 06 ZZR600
I have recently encountered a problem with my zzr that just started out of the blue, when i am down shifting from 3rd and 2nd , I cant get into first , the shift lever just moves freely, and I have to start out in 2nd gear, once I am rolling again under power, I can shift down into first,, it will do this for a while , then it will clear up and shift normally, Im thinking its the shift forks internally, but not sure, if anyone knows anything , or this sounds famillar , I could use some info, I'd appreitiate the advice. thanks Brad
when was the last time you changed your oil? i bet all you need is a fresh oil change. sounds like dirty oil to me.. plus im guessing your bike is a 1980 zx6? goddamn thats older than me.. lol. how many miles do you have on the bike? but anyways the next time your at a stand still and it wont click into 1st, let out the clutch just a hair and try to kick it into 1st. sometimes just letting out the clutch will let the gear just "fall" into place. kinda weird but honestly i bet all you need to do is change the oil. put some synthetic 10w40 in there.
His Bike is a 2006 ZZR600 not what is info has, its not a 1980. HE has just changed the oil. A dude at the local pro shop mentioned something to do with the clutch basket. The problem doesn't seem to request the case the slit, so its not a big $$$ fix. Side bar if any has a good right and left side (silver) fairing please let MR zx6brad know,
Mine did something like that this afternoon... Was sort of odd, shifter just felt like it was moving freely and would not drop gears as I rolled to a stop. Let out the clutch a little bit and it was still in grear, tried shifting down again and it shifted fine. Rode the rest of the day without issue - odd.
Bike was pretty hot and I was shifting down from like 5th to 1st. My oil only has about 700 miles on it. The bike has 1300 miles on it.
whoops , 1980 zx6r!! did they even make a 1980 ninja , yeah, thanks for the info, I just changed my oil , put 10 w 40 synthetic in it , so I dont know whats going on bike only has 8k on it , I havnt beat it up to bad, im normally pretty easy on it .
my tranny has had issues since new. sometimes i shift and it feels like it did and the gear doesn't change, or i get stuck between gears. it seems to do better when the rpm's are up. i have never had such a rough shifting tranny. i have had 6 hondas (my elsinore 125 kept tearing out third then it would trash the rings and piston; got rid of it) and one suzuki with no problems.HTH

I pretty much agree with that. I've had a lot of bikes, only one that shifted worse was an old 125 Penton with the awfull sliding key transmission.
I'm going to put a shift kit in mine, eventually, probably going to wait for Winter, though.

hmmm i noticed the same thing today.. seems like when i'm slowing down I just can't get it into first.. once it was like between gears.. and the other I guess it just kept staying in 2nd..
