so riding yesterday afternoon and under light acceleration i hear revs jump and a loud expensive sounding crunch down by my left leg .
i lost almost all forward momentum. grabbing the clutch i coasted down onto the median and took a look.
chain snapped and coiled up around the front sprocket and in doing so cut the harness going to my voltage regulator. the motor all lights and instrument cluster completely dead.
i got it home and started troubleshooting with my fluke, i have fully charged battery and all fuses have been tested. i looked over the harness found two wires cut thru others were pinched but not cut thru, i spliced the cut ones back together heat shrinked the whole thing and tested continuity at either end of all the wires in the harness,
so at this point i have power at the battery , power to the starter relay , bike in neutral i can jump out the starter relay and it cranks like normal. i have no power to the gauges or the fuse block and nothing is responsive , no lights no horn blinkers nothing, i turn the key and nothing happens.
im a licensed electrician by trade so i know how to trouble shoot fairly well im just curious as to which way i should go about this . im assuming shorting out the voltage regulator cannot be the best thing for the electrical components, and it worries me that not a fuse one was blown or even looked like it had gotten warm. no real issues with the bike to speak of, running great , chain snapped. everything went dead and still is,,
i appreciate any help yall can offer and bear with me if this isnt the correct place to post this is my first time doing so and im sure there is a learning curve ,
