If you live near the US border, setup an account at a mail drop just across the border. From Vancouver you can use TSB Shipping, or The Letter Carrier in Point Roberts. Have your US goods shipped there. Often shipping within ConUS is free, so you save a bundle right there. Then it costs you $3.50 to pick it up from the letter carrier, and you drive it home. The customs guys just wave you through if you bought less than $500 usually.
You can save hundreds of dollars doing this on every purchase.
I know this doesn't help the Canadian economy, but in these tough times, where every scmuck thinks its OK to raise their prices, and every employer is looking at ways to pay employees less, we need to be smart about buying and save our money wherever we can.
Thats my view on it.
