Stuck Throttle?

1970 Bushwacker 175 (2 stroke)

I was sitting at a stop light today and I don't know if it started when I shifted up into first or when I goosed the throttle but my engine took off like a banchee. I thought it was going to blow it was reving so high. I immediately dropped to neutral and turned the key off but the engine kept going for a little bit. Once it died, I started it again and the same thing happened immediately.

I turned the bike off and pushed it over to the curb and down the street a little ways to a gas station. I let it cool for 5 mins and started it again. No problem. I hopped back on and headed home. About a mile later while I was going through a residential area just a few blocks from home, it started again. I was in 2nd gear but the engine was racing w/o any power going to the wheels. I dropped to Neutral, stopped, and pulled the key. I set the kickstand and tipped the bike over. It still ran for 30-45 seconds. It usually kills immediatley when I put it on the kickstand.

I pushed it home (only 2 blocks away) and I noticed that there was some oil leaking from the fins around the head. I don't know if that's realated or not.

Anyone have an idea of what may be going on? I've had the bike for a couple of months. I haven't had any issues with it before.

look close at the slide inside the carb. sounds like it sticks at the wide open position. if this happens when the engine is hot, you can sometimes experience "run on" with the key off, because of "hot spots" in the combustion chamber.hope this helps.........
