1981 KZ1000 timing issue

I assembled the advance timing mech on my 1981 KZ1000 as it says in the manual ( lubed and cleaned it). I have the rotor projection pointing towards the TEC as it says and the primary wires on the coils - black on #1 coil and green on #2 coil as in the wire map says.Like this won't start. When I had the rotor facing the other way it runs but backfires real bad. What did I do wrong?

Figured it out, the magnets were flipped around so the polarity was off.
