Kz440 ltd

Just got home with a real project: a "classic" KZ440LTD. It hasn't run in sixteen years. Bobber or restore? Probably wrench & restore, since there is a lot of family nostalgia associated with this old bike. This is my first rodeo, so I am going to be asking (a lot of) questions.

Welcome here. A friend had one of those in 1985. His had a belt instead of a chain like modern Harleys.

“Banking institutions have banished precious metals and substituted a more fluctuating and unsafe medium; they have withdrawn capital from useful improvements and employments to nourish idleness for the few, who prefer demoralizing pursuits to labors useful to the whole; the peace of the whole is endangered by evils more easily to be deplored than remedied." by Thomas Jefferson,1810 (edited)

Changed the oil and filter (it really wasn't as bad as I had imagined). Bought a battery, brake fluid, and one gallon of Evaporust to remove rust inside the tank. Replacing brake fluid next.

Correction: No brake fluid in master cylinder or lines - just yellow dust. Rear drum brake locks wheel and will not return when brake pedal is pressed.

Engine turns over when cranked without spark plugs.
