jesus i have never seen a bike that dirty unless its a bought salvage bike thats been threw a swamp and back haha
if u want to save time u do not need to take the air box cover off just unplug the fuel line like you did to the gas tank, and its a 3mm allen key not a 4mm for the air box clamps
Nice video. The only thing I see it really lacks is what size T to get and what size hose to use. Im in the middle of doing mine right now, I bought a 1/2" T and a 1/2" Heater hose. Seemed to fit just right in place of the two main smog pump lines and just right with the hose that will be ran to the crankcase. But the hose or male end that goes into the crankcase seems to be around 5/8" instead of 1/2". So it looks like I gotta either use the hose that was there already and just get a 1/2" to 5/8" straight connector or try to force this 1/2" hose around the crankcase entry..
Nope, not a moron! the hose coming off the crank case is 5/8" ID; I used a 5/8" -> 1/2" adapter to connect to the hose I bought. However, I was being a lazy ass and I had just happened to have an adapter laying around from an old sprinkler.
If you don't want to spring for an adapter, just disconnect the hose that was originally on the crankcase vent and wrangle your 1/2" hose over it.
List of everything you need for this mod:
LONG 3mm allen
1/2" T joint
1/2" hose
Staple/Jumper
Electrical Tape
Optional - vacuum plug
Optional - 5/8"->1/2" adapter
any adverse effects to doing this on an otherwise stock bike?
my bike is in for a couple weeks and ive got it mostly taken apart to replace the filter when my new one arrives. figured i might as well do this while im in there if it wont hurt anything.
ill be doing a full exhaust and pc3 in the future.
the big advantage is it keeps oil out of your air box especially doing wheelies , it will give you a little extra low end power and keeps hot oily gasses out of your air box ..
Also going to throw this out there... it really wouldve been nice if this video didnt feature a half-naked chick. I wanted to run through the video again prior to going home to doublecheck the stuff I need to pick up, and stop at autozone/home depot to pick up some tubing, etc on the way... but I cant because is not exactly a work-safe video.
just about done with this, been plugging away at if for about 5min at a time each day... just checking before I make the trek out to autozone or homedepot... but when capping the two holes in the airbox, is it ok to just use duct or electrical tape to cover the opening? or does it HAVE to be a plug/cap
i only ask because autozone doesnt seem to stock shit... and homedepot i dont recall seeing any vaccuum caps. I know that had a couple plugs (though not positive that they were the correct size)
where on earth do you guys find these vacuum caps/plugs?
Ive been to Lowes, Home Depot, Autozone, Pep Boys and the local hardware store... and none of them had any vacuum caps at all (nor did they have suggestions of where to get them). The closest thing I found was a couple plugs at the local hardware store, but they werent the sizes I need.
... so where do I go now?
I should also note that my local bike shop is a pain in the ass to deal with for parts and they dont stock anything.
So I finally finished this... I was bitching to my wife about those places not having what I needed and that I just wished there was a real auto-parts store nearby. She just goes "Why dont you just go to Britton's?" ... Id never heard of or seen this place (only moved here when we got married) and it is on some side-street id never been down.
Anyways... I walked in and walked out less than 2min later with exactly what I needed. Knowing about this store wouldve saved me quite a bit of time and aggravation.
Thanks for the video, helped greatly. Had I had all of the parts etc. this wouldve taken maybe 10-15min to do. Very easy.
Guess I'll contribute.. If you don't have the proper plugs, mask off the area you which to seal with tape from the inside, than fill with rtv. Let set and cure for whatever the suggested time is, then remove the tape and enjoy your smooth filled plug
just remember that a chunk of rubber silicone down your throttle bodies wont be much good. that why i like the caps. 1/2" is what we supply in most cases.
soo ill have to watch this video later.... im in a computer lab with girls all around me... i start the video when a few walk by... i got some weird looks.... lol
