Announcement - Photobucket images no longer working

Hello,

Photobucket.com has recently changed its terms of service for free users on their platform. As of June 20 images hosted by Photobucket and shared on our forum, or any other third party sites, will no longer appear. As a result, you may notice a higher amount of broken images on the forum.

If you do not have access to edit your older posts please contact an Administrator or Moderator for assistance. Please provide the new URL for the image that needs to be edited and a link to the thread the image in located in.

More information on the change and what it means for Photobucket users can be found below.

Thank you

This is really bad news for the forum community. I have over a decade of images posted via photobucket on quite a number of forums which are now broken. I remember the tripod and geocities fiasco and still even today sometimes find links and search results directing to those places and images which are long gone.

Agreed. Unfortunately, our hands are pretty tied in this matter. Tech is still looking in to some workaround on this, but no news as of yet.

I'd recommend for everyone, especially for posting How-To's/Tutorials, to attach your images directly to your posts. All members have unlimited attachment space here. This way, it will ensure your images are there for the life of the site. You won't have to worry about another hosting site turning around like this.

I was also obviously affected by this PB charade but I've found a way to restore the appearance of PB image links on the web so I am posting it here too.

All you have to do is paste ~original between jpg and IMG at the last part of the PB link:

Image not visible:

Image fixed:

The same Code but with ~original added between jpg and the IMG...

Hopefully that fix holds up but to be safe, go and download your albums from Photobucket and if you have time to - send us the links to your threads/posts that have broken images along with the link to the intact image (if you've migrated them temporarily to another hosting site) so that we can fix these for you.

But as Dayle mentioned above, moving forward, we highly recommend that you use the Attachments tool within your
Go Advanced option (can also be seen in your User CP), Gallery and Garage to host your images on our site here. As stated previously, you guys have unlimited storage space so that's a bonus!

We'll alert you once we get an update on the solution for all this. In the mean time, please continue to bear with us and let us know if you have any questions/concerns or need assistance with uploading images.

Thank you for your understanding on this matter.

Cheers,
Natalie

It is definitely more advisable to abandon PB altogether of course, I've already partially done that, but in case of complicated threads with text and photos the link replacement can only be done correctly by the topic starters anyway, so even a temporary editing right for all posts independently of how old they are would be the best solution.

So I will be waiting and hoping

Not necessarily - we as admins have access to editing threads even if we're not the thread/topic starters. The thought has crossed our minds to open a temporary editing time frame for all but this can lead to some editing other posts as well and not just the PB affected ones, which can and will ruin the integrity of the threads/forums. So this is why we offer to do it for you with the provided instructions above on how to go about this.

In the meantime, Chrome users - we came across an extension that will enable you to see the broken images hosted from PB. Another temp fix for now (who knows how long it'll hold up) but here it is -*https://chrome.google.com/webstore/d...ifiaedg?hl=enm <- click on that link and follow the visual aids (screenshots provided).

Don't forget to clear your cache/cookies and refresh the page once you are finished. Let us know if that works for you and/or if you need further assistance.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding on this matter.

Cheers,
Natalie

I guess that you mean this procedure:

Can you please elaborate on what to do in order to replace PB links in old threads using this method?

Like step by step?

Sorry but I am a bit thick when it comes to computers

Thanks again for your time and effort

When I add attachments, it shrinks the image down to where it is borderline illegible.
