Just joined, and was wondering what to introduce myself with.Well i have an '06' zx636 ninja, the battery is always having to be charged.Whats the lifespan of a battery like mine, its about 3-4 years old, time for a change i think.I'm sure its the factory fitted immobiliser that does the damage, flashes red about every 30 secs.It did have an alarm on when bought but no-one knew, that was supposed to have been removed,i'm also wondering if thats got some remnants...
I would say ~5 years would be a normal life span for a battery. Although poor maintenance would reduce that. Probably not a waste of money replacing a 3-4 year old battery, but you could also test the one you have.
Welcome, I agree with bpe, I am replacing batteries every five years as a precaution although I've had batteries that lasted eight+ years in the past.
It's all a matter of good maintenance, I have an alarm installed and I've never used a battery tender as the secret is to use the bike at least once a week. I am riding all year round here so obviously no problem with that, regular use is what keeps the battery healthy :smile2:
Changing the battery after two three to four years is ok if it has been poorly maintained, if not the constant discharge could be a sign of a alternator damage so have that checked too just in case.
Right put a new battery in,your right about neglect, sat outside all winter no charge was my fault, anyway i read another forum on charging system ect,I'm getting 13.1V ish not started, when i start it and check again its down to 12.8 ish, according to other thread i have a fault in my charging system.I'm just going through the manual to find out where to check next, loose wires ect.I'll update.
Thanks all.

Update, testing the battery again, when reving about 6000 upwards i'm getting 14V ish on the meter,I think thats a pass on the charging system, can anyone confirm that please.
I think you have a pass on the charging system also.
You may want to load test the battery. See what the voltage is while your cranking the engine. If it drops below 10v, you need another battery.
Charge with 1 amp max . I knackered a few batterys charging at 6+ amps ! now on 3rd battery in 3 years . Doesent help that the main headlight is on all the time especially at start up. Will be wiring a switch in soon to combat the problem
