Introduction

Hi Everyone, My name is David. I'm a retired teacher, just passed my test 5 weeks ago (wish I'd taken it in my twenties) and I love riding.
Anyway, I've just bought a 2008 ER6N , my first "big" bike, last Sunday, filled it up and rode it home approx. 130 miles. Loved it! It's Pearlescent orange and the previous (lady) owner called it Ginger. 20000 miles and a few scratches here and there but she still looks good!

Message for Admin : I've just joined the forum, clicked on the Newbie Corner link, as told, but got "Invalid Forum" message so I'm posting here.

Thanks

Thanks for the welcome!
It's a lovely bike but it took me by surprise yesterday when I went to fill up and couldn't open the fuel cap! I've spent most of today trying to get it open and eventually I took the tank off and drove to the Kawasaki dealer. I'd removed the screws and the mechanic managed to get the cap open and off. I eventually managed to get the lock barrel out with help from my Dremel! I've been quoted £45 plus VAT for a new barrel. I couldn't believe the quantity of corrosion in the lock mechanism!

Wow, that's the first time I hear about rust in the barrel lock mechanism. Water always finds its way, for better or worse, and it seems that it decided to pass through your fuel cap barrel!

Unfortunately the water doesn't pass through! It just sits there over the years causing corrosion of the aluminium alloy barrel probably in association with the brass in there too. No rust in there, its not steel!

Rust, corrosion, whatever, I've heard of an old prank where you put super glue in the lock barrel of a rider the you really don't like

Not recommended of course!
