Hey guys! I am the owner of a 1972 S2 350 Mach II. I guess my first question would be about oil. On the oil cover it says to specifically use Torco T-2 2-stoke oil but all I can find is torco T-2r. What does the r mean and will I be able to use this oil from torco. Would I be able to use any other type of oil in it?
Still learning? Delving into motorcycle repair/maintenance requires a constant, never ending learning curve.
Kickstart, drum brakes, man, thats an oldie. Not sure of your intentions...but to be sure you do know S2 requires separate, different oils in the fuel system and crankcase? The T2R is gonna be fine, are you premixing or using its' original "Superlube" system?
I'm sure modern Yamaha or Honda 2 stroke oils would be usable alternatives in the fuel system.
A very different animal, has this bike been sitting a long time or has it been serviced or restored?
Just started working on it 2 days ago. I’ve cleaned the carbs very well and I’m about to start on the gas tank. I’ll post a picture of it in just a second. It’s pretty nasty in the inside
Considering the scope of the project, it's probably worth picking up an ultrasonic cleaner. It's hard to tell from the picture, but if the petcock is screwed together, you can probably get a rebuild kit for it. If it's bolted, you're unlikely to be able to get it back together. I'd recommend getting nitrile (nbr rubber) for any gasketing that's likely to come into contact with gas.
As far as doing this for a living, if you get good at changing tires and doing oil changes, it's likely that somebody would be willing to hire you for the spring rush.
No you don't have to use thatjust put a good brand oil in it Castrol belray you can put a small cap full of castrol R30 in the tank and you will turn heads the best 2 stroke smell
