Paint Type for Brake Calipers

I want to paint my brake calipers gold and I was wondering if I could use a can of gold that I already have? It's not high heat paint but it should still work, right? Worst comes to worst it just burns/peels and I get the right paint next time? Thanks in advance. Will post before and after pictures of the bike when all of its work is done...lookin reallllll nice so far.

I know that the brand VHT has got paint that is suitable for calipers, as it withstands heat.

^ get yee to your local auto parts store and ask parts guy for actual "caliper paint" by VHT (as JamesQ suggested above) Rustoleum also markets it too.

The spray can is clearly labeled as such. From VHT instructions:

"VHT brake, caliper. Drum & rotor coatings have been specifically designed for the custom detailing of brake components. It is heat resistant to 900F (482C) and will not chip, crack, fade or rust even under extremes of operation or road and weather conditions. It is easy to apply, dries quickly and is remarkably resistant. Careful preparation is essential".

Careful prep = soda/sand blasting (after complete disassembly) or some equivalent.... brushing and liquid solvent, again, after disassembly. Prep being important, as VHT has advised. Done right, they'll look great and last a long while.

the op only 5 months old , hope you didn't opt to use a non-caliper specific paint....poor decision.

(well, I've got my 15 posts for PM capability now)
