Switch design hasn't changed. They're still just a set of contacts, same as always. There are new smart switches out that contain complex electronics, but they're not used for MC kill switches.
switch design at its base may not have changed, but quality control methods have greatly improved and minimum number of cycles for a switch of that nature is still a very large number, and as I mentioned, more than most people will own the bike for.
