My recently acquired ER6n 2008 had a really sloppy throttle action when I bought it. I discovered it when riding 120 miles home. Close inspection revealed the both throttle cables outer sheaths had cracked apart completely! Replacement was urgent and essential. I checked out the prices and when I'd recovered I turned to eBay. A quick search found a pair of used cables for £12.99 including shipping. Two days later they arrived and 30 minutes of the following morning had them fitted and adjusted. The throttle is now really responsive to closing which had been the main problem and it makes the bike feel much better. The hardest part of the job was refitting the two screws in the plastic surround on the handlebar. Overall an easy fix for anyone to do!
Ive been putting off replacing mine because apparently the cable around the throttle grip is a pain to put back together. Glad to hear it was easy for you though! Any hints for others like me ?
It's not too bad, just swapped to an r1 quick throttle tube last week. On my 09
It will make sense as you remove the cover, long one goes around the bottom, shorter on the top. They run in a channel. Take yojr time, and pay attention. No worries, listen for the snap open and closed of the plates, and make sure it moves freely and doesn't bind.
Thanks Mann! Any pics of the install?
Did you use the ninja cables or the r1?
Sorry for the questions. Ive got a z1 master cylinder and the banjo is in a shit of a spot for the standard switchgear. I want to change it to a quick throttle as well so im thinking this might be a way forward. That said - I just realised you may have retained the standard switchgear ..?
Stock switchgear, standard stock 650 cables.
The throttle tube just popped in the housing, it is bigger, but fit great. I didn't take pictures, and if i took one now, i have a kawasaki and Yamaha grip. Lol. New tube came with the grip. Will swap soon.
Very happy with the results, have about 1k miles on it in 2 spirited twisty rides, and it feels very nice.
I have the stock master, but dual lines at the bar, spiegler ss lines.
