Found a cheap one on eBay that looked smaller. In my case it came off a 2016 z1000
They fit on a treat but the wiring doesn’t match. If plugged in the bike will crank regardless of switch position or button press. Ask me how i know.....The plug is the same.
I repinned the plug and I’m back on the road 22g lighter lol.
To repin
On the switch plug there’s two tabs on the side and these retain a sort of collar within the plug.
Press these in and the collar should come out
There’s a rubber o ring below that, remove that too
Then each wire has a small plastic tab that holds it in place.
Use a scribe to push down and remove the wire then, re pin as per my pics
I should mention that the reason I needed a new switch was that I’ve moved to a z1 brake master cylinder and Zx6r throttle housing was required because the cables were in the way. So to change the throttle cables, I had to change the switch ...
found out I had a quick throttle tube on my bike in the process also; winning !
For those interested, theres R6 throttle tubes on eBay that fit for under 20 bucks
Apparently “2006 Yamaha r6 throttle tube and grip has a 40mm throttle cam. The 05 tube has a 38mm cam”
Hello AusEr6guy.
I'm Dimitris, from L.A Greece.
I wonder if you could guide me , with details if needed, to do the same mod as you did.
My bike is an ER6n '08 and the problem is the same as yours with oem equipment, throttle cables are in wrong position. Dont let the radial mc fit!
I already did the first step, bought few months ago a 19" Radial mc (Braking RS-B1).
So, as i can guess, i have to buy a smaller killer switch and a throttle tube.
I found a switch from z1000 07-09, take a look if you have some time and give me the "ok". Of course i will follow your steps with wirring.
So we're coming to most important part, throttle.
As i can see you propose r6 2005-06.
Do i need to also change the cables or the oem ones will fit? What about their length, did you had any problems?
Also, do you know if a zx6r 2005-06 throttle will fit and do the job? [Poignee gaz KAWASAKI ZX-6 R 2005-2006 NINJA | eBay]
My mechanic told me to be extra carefull because i already changed handlebar (bigger one in length and diameter , its a fatbar), and the cables are pretty much to their limits!!
Hi mate
Happy to help
The switch seems to be the right one. You’ll find out when you get it if you need to repin like I did. But it’s a 5-10 minute job
The throttle I used an zx6r throttle housing and cables and found I already had an r6 throttle cam in my original er6 throttle housing and the r6 fits both zx6r and er6
The cables from the zx6 were a little short but yours might be ok depending on which year etc
That will also do. You’ll need throttle cables to match as well though
