I'm thinking of trading my 2007 Kawasaki 650R for a Yamaha MT-07?

My 650R only has 3,850 miles and is in mint condition. It is 100% stock with Michelin Pilot 4s. I know
I'm going to miss the fairing; it's a great freeway bike. How many more years could I get parts for my 650R? Land vehicle Vehicle Motorcycle Car Motor vehicle

Good luck with that, the MT-07 is essentially a chinese bike with a japanese engine bolted on, way inferior in terms of quality in all areas. Dealerships here are changing the chain without charging labour with the first service because of its dangerous low quality. Problems with plastics, locks, fitting of components and extensive rusting abound.

The engine is reliable but the rest of the bike is problematic to say the least, that's the only way to develop a new engine and motorcycle and sell it dirt cheap in comparison to the competition, if I were you I would wait for the next generation of MT's and maybe even the first facelift after a couple of years just to be sure.

I don't see you having issues with parts for a long time.
Those bikes are in the wild in solid numbers. I wouldn't worry about parts.

I'm surprised about the comments about the MT07 being said also? know its a kiwi forum, but the mt07 (if you can't get past the looks *not a naked sport fan) are fun and awesome bikes to toy around on. But I would not want it for a primary bike.

And 19 model did fixed a lot of the problems, same for the fz/mt09 throttle issues. One of my friends just picked one up about 6 months ago.. no issues.

Good to hear that but this bike's reputation precedes it unfortunately. I am glad to hear that your friend has no problems with it but I have many friends who are bitterly dissapointed and a simple internet search will show the extend of the aforementioned problems.

I like naked bikes and I do not intend to bash Yamaha, they moved very smart and created two amazing engines for the MT series which dominated the market but the problems with quality apart from the engine itself are massive.

If you are considering a naked/standard bike, how about the Z650? You already know the engine and reliability, and Kawi's fit and finish is always good. Not quite the power of the MT07, but what's a couple of tenth's (hundredths?) in a quarter mile?

Honda's new CB650F, looks like it will be a winner. IL4, and good ergos. A bit pricey though, compared to the Kawi and Yami. Just some thoughts to consider.

Oh, still have my Ninja 650, but bought a 16 BMW F800R, as a naked bike for the garage. Weighs the same as my Ninja, USD forks, Brembos, 90HP, and handles like crazy. Got a good price for it, but was lucky.. Just another one to consider, especially used. tp

I like the 2019 Honda CBR650R, but it's expensive as you said. I've never ridden an inline 4 except for a Kan-a-tuna back in '82. I liked my RD 400 better then. At the end of the day, I always keep my 650R though.
