Remove the fuel tank and get the airbox out of the way so the shop doesn't have to do it would save you some labor time/cost. No way to know if the engine can be saved by a rebuild at this point or...

Fuel pump does not prime when the key is turned on. It only runs while the engine is cranking or actually running.

If the fuel pump was bad I would think it would run worse when you get the revs...

Sounds like the bike may have overheated. Compression check and leakdown test would be where I would start to verify that the engine isn't completely toast.

Try taking out the spark plugs and turning it then. With the bike in gear you will have to overcome the compression of the engine which is no small feat.

I have a KLX250 (now a 331cc supermoto). The only real problem I can foresee is the tank size and you may want to look into a Clarke or IMS tank.

I had my stock KLX to 90 miles per hour indicated...

Hard to say if it's "normal" since descriptions and perceptions...
