My 04 636 has the same problem. Coolant fan works but will come on sometimes and other times it wont even when the temp is over 230-235. I believe its the coolant temp sensor that is in the radiator. Check this out and let me know if it fix's it because I'm about to replace mine.
NRSCOTT, how hot is it getting? Also, check and make sure there is enough oil but not over filled. My bro had the same problem on a car he rebuilt, come to find out his dip stick was short and he was running WAY too much oil. just a thought
Bike will hit 240 then should start flashing HOT on the gauge, 250 should shut off automatically on its own. I have not seen 240 even though the bike is running hot at times. My temp gauges is very erratic jumping in temps of 5-6 degrees at a time and back, which is another reason I believe its the coolant temp sensor.
