My bike is sitting in the garage waiting for parts to replace a leaking head gasket and I am looking to remove any unnecessary parts. I don't ride on the street only 1/4 mile and soon track days. The question I have is what exactly the tank resonator does in the air duct leading to the air box? The kit cd recommends removing this piece and plugging the hole. If I remove this piece are there any potential side effects that could hurt performance? It looks to be a noise controlling piece but,input would be great.

That is all it does, to quite down the intake resonance and get the intake howl under the EPA madated db limit.

when in doubt if it does not have a real purpose that can be justified remove it..
