What is the real difference between the 190/50R/17 and a 190/55R/17...is there a chart or link to understanding the difference? Does it really matter? How close is is and what does it really mean?

190/50/R17
190 = tire width (cm i believe)
55 = profile (amount of rubber on side of tire, ratio i think (55% of width))
R = speed rating
17 = tire/rim size
55 and 50 would be pretty close to the same profile

190 is definitely millimeters

its not a big difference on a car but im pretty sure that would be a big difference on a bike. noob on bike tires but not on tires in general

The 190 is mm in width, the second number is the aspect ratio of sidewall in %.

The sidewall on the 190/50 is 50% as tall as it is wide or 95 mm.

The sidewall on the 190/55 is 55% as tall as it is wide 104.5 mm.

so the 190/55 would be taller by a few millimeters.

190/55 has a rounder profile, supposed to turn in a bit quicker than the flatter 190/50.

General consensus suggests 190/55 is the preferable size given a choice.

not only does it turn in quicker it also has a greater contact patch than even a 180/55, they make the bike feel like a 600 in a way, its def worth the extra money if you ask me, i had one on my gixx1k
