I own a '99 6r. The original tire size is 120/60 front and 170/60 rear. I've tried both 120/65 and 120/60 on the front and i like the first one better, the handling seems less twitchy.

At the moment I have the original sizes on my bike and I was thinking: would mounting a 180/55 on the rear stabilise the bike, since it would lower it's rear, or would it adversely affect it's handling? Has anyone tried it? Does the '99 have a 5,5" rim?

I was thinking the same when I needed a new rear a few months ago. Many dealers/mechanics told me not to go with a 180. Although it will fit, it is too large for the rim and wont do anything for your handling.

The FAQ on zx6r.com says:

The 98/99 models will improve handling when equipped with 00/01 tire size.

Any truth to that? Anyone with actual experience?

My friend just had 01 size tires (Michelin Pilot Sports) put on his 99, they replaced the Dunflop Sportmax 207's. Feels like a completly different bike. It felt twitchy at first but cornering is much better than stock. Hope this helps
