I have a 2000, so far I have not encountered any problems. Well one - my Speedo went crazy, Kawasaki replaced it but it did not fix the problem so now I think its 1. CDI box (igniter box) or 2. Speedo Sensor but I really don't care anymore about it.
Honda had some problems with their CCT too, heard a few reports of 98-01 zx-6r models needing the CCT replaced around 5000 miles, but not sure how widespread the problem is. Heard it was fixed on the 02 models with the use of some better meterials.
you could also get the bike and then if you have to replace it with the 02 CCT's...I'm sure they are a direct fit. most likely it wont be a problem though.
I have an 01zx6r with 8700 abused miles on it without a problem other than a few bolts and screws falling out. I kicked that bike in the balls everyday back when it was warm out. We have snow on the ground right now so the bike has gone into storage. But I was thinking of studding up my track bike to take it out on the lake!
I also have 2001 zx6r..... with 14,500km in one season put on her, ive heard of CCT problems but i havent had one yet and i drive it pretty hard. The only 2 problems i have had was a leaky waterpump housing. A slow oil leak was coming out from just behind the waterpump housing, The dealer put some new sealant on and problem fixed. Also had an oil leak on one of the outer hydraulic lube hose banjo fittings on the right side of the bike, i think the hydraulic hose goes to the top end of the engine to lubricate the cams and so on. Found a puddle of oil under my bike one day, traced the problem to a loose fitting. tightened it up and away i went. Topped it up with oil b4 though! thats it for now i hope!
