I was forwarded a scanned pic from a french Mag on what the 2003 will look like. I have never seen an artist drawing ever look like the bike - But from the snap shot photo it looks like this just may be a close one. It kinda looks like a green r1.

Damn!!! that bike is awesome!!! if the 2003 really looks like that I'm going to be pissed for getting a 2002
that resembles the moto gp bike that kawasaki wanted to debut this year. read about it in one of the latest sportrider magazines, not sure which month though, i think it is the one with the "550hp shootout". just FYI. peace

WTF is a Gixxer?
Yep, they are already talking about it on R6 messagenet...

http://www.motorcyclenews.com/news/detail?sectionID=212131&documentID=152182

Personally I only hope it doesn't look like that... It looks exactly like an R1.
No way is JKawasaki going to chaneg the 03 zx-6r that radically. I might be worng, and if I am, I will too be pissed I just bought a 2002....

I love the bike and all, but that drawing does look cool...

I would be more interested in knowing porformance changes....

I think they are going to change it, they have to, its been the bottom feeder of the 600 supersport class (slow seller) for the last 3 years. The redesign of the 2000 - 2002 helped sales but was still considered "dated" compared to all the other bikes. Hell I was out to get the 2000 R6 but I couldn't find one so I got the ZX6R because the GSXR and CBR were UGLY as hell. The 2000 ZX6R was rated Bike of the Year by CycleWorld and yet sales were still low, so low Kawasaki dropped the price in the middle of the summer.

All 2000 R6's were sold out by July 2000 (they were going over msrp if you can find one) In 2001 F4i cleaned house along with the R6. 2002 R6 is cleaning house once again this time with Suzuki in second.

Kawasaki cannot afford to loose in the 600 class any longer, its rumored the ZX7R is going to be discontinued next year and the ZX9R is getting killed by the GSXR1000, 954 & the ever so beautiful R1 in sales. The ZX12 is the ZX12, personally I am not into that much of a bike if I wanted that many ccs I'd get a Harley.

I am very happy with my 2000 ZX6R, its a great bike and whats better is they haven't changed it much in 3 years so I don't feel like "Damn" as Andy & Vito stated. But if this bike does come to life (which I think it will - see the real snap shot) I will be in some hot water with my better half because its going to be hard to resits getting on the waiting list and selling my 2000. I don't want a bigger bike, a 600 is more than enough power and NYC insurance rapes you. I am 27 with a perfect driving record and I pay $1500 full coverage. I can only imagine an R1

you made some valid points....I'm just so used to Kawasaki taking much longer to update anything.

To be honest I like the looks of the 2000-2002 6r's better than any other 600ss bike out there. All the others look, well look almost to sporty. I always considered a zx-6r, the sleeper of the 600's, and I like that.

Plus I like being the only one in town riding a zx-6r.

But if restyling the 6R helps Kawasaki stay in business, then I"m all for it. I just want to know what performance updates it gets, I mean the ZX-6R, although being dated, surely does hold it own against the other 600's on the street, and heck even on the track to some degree.

the new bike looks sweet and I will definetly consider getting one when they come out but unless they come up with some serious performance enhancements I assume the new R6 that is also slated for september will out perform/sell it by leaps and bounds due to yamahas new deltabox III frame design and FI. while on the topic of FI is the new 6R going to be FI?

I aways like the Yamaha R6, I am glad to see Kawasaki becoming more cutting edge. Andy is right, Kawa has always been known for great ergos and this bike is built for the track.

Its built just like the R6 and GSXR, lower handle bars, sharper tank, higher rear, higher and pushed back rear sets which all calls for a back breaking / wrist hurting bike.

I really like the looks of it but I bet its going to be the higest priced this year.

Looks like they didnt miss anything:
Color matched undertail (assuming)
rear tire hugger
inverted forks (I don't know if that will make production)
Radial Breaks

I am not digging the BLACK RIMS (someone say POLISH)

You can get a 2002 for $6700 + tax and tags look like the new one will be in the mid 8's Assuming they update the engine to FI

The 2003 ZX6R that is floating around this board and on the net is not going to be the bike that is released. Art found some pics of the 2003 ZX6R in Japan (hes been there the last few weeks)

It has been redesigned (he says it looks better then what is posted)

As soon as he returns he will scan them in and post it here.
well tell Art to get his ass back here then ;)

So here it is... the 2003 ZX6r is going to be a 636, From what i got out of this article from this dealership they are doing it to make ppl want to buy a faster 600 bike.... http://www.kawasakinorthside.com/Place_New_/Super_Sports/ZX6R/zx6r.html .... let me know what you think about it.
Carbon

Really?!?! I would love to have a 636, how knows then what it is going to be. If I do get another bike it will a ZX12R to get sick with!!!

2000 Mean Green ZX6R
Carbon, The 636 isn't that big of jump from the 600...You get alittle more low/mid range, but nothing to cry about...I would have lked to get the 636 too, but it isn't worth the trade-up IMHO.

Ofcourse, just htink about it, if they did release the 636, I bet it would be super popular over hear in the states, cause all the other bikes on displace 600, and we all know bigger is better!!!

;)

i'm sure you guys have heard this a million times, but just FYI.... the 636 isn't in the USA because it would disqualify the kawa's from the 600cc racing class... this is what i don't understand though - doesn't team kawasaki still race 2000's in the supersport class?? somebody please correct me if i'm wrong. but i'm almost postive that when i first read about the 636 that the article said team kawa is going to stick with the 2000's anyways.

I'd say the one in the spy-shot pic is most likely what's going to be produced. It's painted and fully badged. If it wasn't that close to completion, they'd have it under tighter wraps.

I'd look for higher pegs, digital, harsher ride and sharper cornering. Kaw, I'm sure, is tired of getting slapped around in all of the moto mags, and then getting the nice tag "The (insert bike here) has better handling, more acceleration, blah, blah, blah but the Kawi is the best bike for every-day use with it's comfortable riding position and excellent street manners." No one seems to notice that last little bit, just the fourth, fifth, or sixth spot that the 6R always gets placed in on their track tests. Does any american rag do road tests for sport bikes anymore?

That's got to hurt sales, even though most of the sport buyers today, haven't even rode past a track in their life.

I like the look of the current model. It's not as racy looking as the others, but I don't race. I've got a great bike that I can ride to work, and still have an ass when I get there, that is one of the better looking bikes today.

I would like to see FI, because I ride from 8300' to 5000' all the time, and you can really tell the difference when the jets run out.
