I bought my 2000 J1 with 6000km on it and it now has just over 10,000.

Can someone tell me what is involved in the major services at 6k and 12k? Is there a difference? I have no idea on the servicing history of the bike as I bought it as a reposession.

I don't know if the 6,000 km (4000 mi) was done on it and I was hoping to incorporate both servicings into one.

Is there anything I can do myself (oil, coolant, plugs, leads etc) that will save me money, or is it something the shops do as a standard price and stuff I do will make little difference to the price?

Any info would be much appreciated. If I can do the oil myself, what is the best oil to use? I've seen some people on here talk about non motorcycle specific oils being just as good for half the price.

Also for those in Australia, what's a decent price for the major services? They seem to vary a bit from place to place.

Thanks guys

Thanks for that info.

Do they do the oil / filter as well?

I've never had a bike with low km on it before and I've always done my own oil etc, so I have no idea what they include in their services....
