I'm looking for people w/ personal experience w/ the two bikes...I've heard ppl say one thing or another - I just don't believe the races were as close as my buddy lead me to believe :)

I run regularly against two 2001 R6's. See 'em in this pic?

As for how close they are... well, not really. The one guy can run with me but only because he only weighs 135 pounds ([:0]). They won't TOUCH the 636 in a straight line otherwise.

I ride with an 02 r6 with a full yoshi system and i eat him up everytime we ride.

We're about the same weight so it's a pretty even match.

Thanks guys...that's what I suspected.

The first time I spoke w/ the guy he said "Yeah, i've reaced my buddies 636 on the freeway probably 20 times. It's anybody's race...they are nose-to-nose"

After I called him on it a couple times, now he says "Dude, on twisty roads it's anybody's race"

'We were talking bout running them on the freeway' I reminded him.

(shrug) :D

I have a good friend with an 03 R6 and its not even close to being the same as the 02 and older. the paper work that he got with the bike says that yamaha changed like 95% of the bike. I have a 98 ZX6R with a full yosh system, but it probably isnt close to a new 636 and i can whip him for about 2 or 3 thousand rpm then we just keep the same distance between us. he is also 100 lbs heavier then me so i would say our bikes are aobut the same as far as speed goes. but i think all the tests say that the 636 is in a league of its own. the R6 is probably more like the 6RR. dont know if this answers your ? but i thought i would put in my 2cents

I did some checking and 03 636 has (107.5 Hp @ 13,000 and 46.4 tq @ 11,000 with quarter mile 10.67 @ 131.0) The 03 R6 (105.4 Hp @ 12,750 and 44.7 tq @ 11,750 with quarter mile 10.80 @ 127.8) This came from Sportrider.com.

4mph Faster in the 1/4 mile shows that the 2hp difference is probably wrong... ;)

I have a friend with an 03 R6 and I race the older generation R6 so I can give you a few details. On the 636 vs 03 R6 front, my bike will pull away when going at it side by side from lower RPMs (5-8K) to start - if we are both high in the revs it is dead even almost all the time. The older R6s are a little down on power but not as much as you would think, rider skill has alot to do with the results especially on the new ones - the bikes are that close.

i run all over my buddys 02 r6... another buddys 03 r6 is right next to me the whole time... and it isnt because he is a better rider... he weighs a bit less but bottom line the 03 r6 is damn close to the 636 on the topend... giving up a little from lower rpm roll ons... thats my experience with em at least:D

I have riden the 03 R6 of a friends & it has more bottom end than my 636, but midrange & top end the 636 feels stronger. The 03 R6 turns in better & is more comfortable to ride, for 1 you don't squash your nuts all the time. Maybe on a track it isn't as good but I thought it was nicer to ride on the street than the 636 even if the brakes, gearbox & mid to topend power were less.

I have a buddy with an '03 R6 and on the bottom end it pulls harder than any 6 I've ridden. However on the top end I can outrun him but my bike has been modified whereas he only has a slip-on exhaust.
