I RIDE A 97-6R AND I'VE HAD A REALY WIERD PROBLEM-AT OR ABOUT 6 GRAND THE ENGINE HAS A LITTLE SPUTTER.WHEN IM IN HIGH GEAR IT FEELS LIKE THE BIKE GETS POWER SURGES IN OTHER WORDS IT'S NOT SMOOTH AROUND THIS RPM.ANOTHER THING THAT I THINK IS RELATED TO THIS IS WHEN IM STARTING OUT THERE IS A HESITATION-THIS HAS CAUSED ME A STREET RACE OR TWO.I'M FREINDS W/A GUY WHO GOES TO MMI THAT SAYS TO SHIM THE NEEDLES AND THAT WILL TAKE CARE OF THE PROB,BUT THE DEALER SAYS THIS WILL ONLY MOVE THIS HESITATION TO ANOTHER RPM.THE DEALER SUGESTED I CLEAN THE JETS,BUT WOULDN'T IT BE EASIER TO BUY A JET KIT-REPLACE THEM AND FORGET ABOUT IT-OR DO I JUST NOT GET IT(AS USUAL).I WENT DOWN A TOOTH IN THE FRONT W/HOPES THAT THIS PROBLEM WOULD BE LESS NOTICIBLE-NO CIGAR-HELP MY BROTHERS!

Maybe just cleaning the carbs will help.

Also, can you tell if your bike is running lean or rich? It's all about that 14:1 air to fuel ratio.

Dan...comfortable enough with his manhood to ride a 600.

I have a '95 and had some similar hesitation problems that I thought could only be fixed by carb mods, but before I tore it apart I happened to try baddassjake's emissions removal mod and haven't had the same problem since. Might be worth a shot.

Yeah, I gotta rip mine out this winter. How did a CA bike get all the way to Iowa?

HEY WEEZY-ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT THE RUDIMETRY CRANKCASE TURBOCHARGE? I WANTED TO TRY BUT I WASN'T SURE IT WOULD WORK ON OUR YEAR MOST OF THESE GUY'S HAVE NEWER BIKES SO I THOUGHT IT RULED ME OUT LET ME KNOW HOW IT WORKED FOR YOU.SOUNDS TO ME LIKE I CANT LOOSE.I ALREADY CLEANED THE CARBS AND HAD EM SYNKED-AND IOWAZX6R THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT THIS PROB WILL BE A THING OF THE PAST AFTER READING THIS THANKS A MILLION

I think that I am having very close to the same issues as you. I have a 2000 6R that does basicaly the same thing, but at changing RPM's depending upon which gear I am in. If you read my posts about alot of the issues I have had in this section, let me know if you think that is kind of like what you are experiencing. Alot of people say to clean my carbs, cuz the bike has sat for a while. I have a new fule filter on the way today. If that does not take care of the problem, how exactly do I get the carbs off to clean them? I assume take the tank off, then the aribox, but do what from there. Any input would be awsome. And let me know for sure if you DO find something that seems to help. The only thing that holds the carbs on are the four clamps on the four intake boots. It is a phillips screw and it is hard to see. You might stick an inspection mirror to see what it looks like then do it by feel. Once you actually get the carbs off you can disconnect the throttle cables and choke cable plus the fuel line.

I INSTALLED A NEW FUEL FILTER AND IT HELPED MAKE THE BIKE RUN SMOOTHER BUT NOT IN THE SPUTTER EVERYBODY SEEMS TO BE LEANING TOWARD A CARB CLEAN YOU CANT GO WRONG W/THAT BUT IF YOU TAKE IT TO A SHOP BE READY TO PAY AROUND $250 THATS WHAT I WAS QUOTED ANYWAY. ON THE OTHER HAND IT CAN BE DONE W/THE RIGHT TOOLS BUT DONT DO IT IF YOU DONT KNOW HOW YOU MIGHT REGRET IT.IM GONNA DO THE CRANKCASE MOD TONIGHT ILL BE POSTING THE RESULTS ASAP- BY THE WAY I'M ALSO PUTTING ON A HEADER AND CAN OFF AN '02-J1 IT SEEMS TO BE ALOT LIGHTER AND IM READING GUYS ARE ONLY GETTING A COUPLE OF HP FROM AFTERMARKET CANS AND SYSTEMS-SO FOR TEN BUCKS OFF EBAY IM GIVING IT A TRY FINGERS CROSSED-THIS MAY ALSO HAVE A SMALL EFFECT.

what is baddassjake's emission removal mod? have same problem on my 95 zx6r except mine seems more severe. serious lag from off idle to about 8k rpm. also at wide open throttle. been messing with pilot screws and im pretty sure that the problem lies in the fuel/air ratio. let me know what you think.
