My ZX7 is making a chirping sound at low rpms when I begin to throttle it up. It sounds like its coming from the area of the alternator. I read in the manual that the alternator needs to periodically be adjusted. Could it being out of adjustment make the sound (i.e. belt slipping) or is the alternator potentially going bad (i.e. bearing)? Any help is appreciated.

Hello, I have a 89 zx7 as well. There is a special tool from kawasaki to adjust the alt belt tension. In the time of a day or two my belt started slipping then stranding my ass five miles from the house. Somewhat simple fix if you have torque wrench and specs. Might want to buy a new belt though.

I have an '89 with a lot of '90 parts on it and I've had the alternator off before. I don't have the tool, just lifted the alternator to tighten the belt and bolted it down. Has worked fine since.
