I'm in the market to buy a 1999 or newer zx6r..

I was originally thinking of getting the R6 but while I was going through some r6 forums, I found out that around 1 out of 4 R6's suffer from a second gear problem..

So I've decided to go with the zx6r..

Are there any notorious problems with the zx6r's??
If you guys know of any common problems with the 1999 or newer zx6r's
please let me know...

Thanks...

I have had my 99 6r for almost three years now and have had no problems whatsover. Now i have about 9k miles which include several track days, were i absolutely ride the hell out of it. I reccomend jacking the rear ride up all the way (nice feature) which makes this bike turn effortlessly without a hint of front instability I have changed the oil w/ synthetic every 2k miles, but other than that there hasn't been any maintenance issues at all. Good buy

Only problems I can think of are the 636 seat cowl has a habit of flying off and you have to make sure you make positive shifts from first to second. Checkout the gripes section(few crybabies in there). They overexaggerate a little though.

Wasn't there a problem with the cam tensioner or something that they fixed in 02?
