I finally picked up my new bike. Used actually, but I got a great
deal on a 2003 636 even though I had to drive to Va. from Buffalo to pick it up -- 16 hours round-trip – alone.

Took it to a trackday at Mosport on Monday 6/14 – completely stock
except for bodywork. Even had the stock tires on it.

THAT FRIGGIN" BIKE WAILS!! Granted, I had an RS 125 last year, but my
buddy who bought my 2000 R1 was there and he was
amazed that he could not pass me on the long back straight. i not
only stayed in his draft but was able to pass him on the back
straight. The bike is a rocket!! It also handled very nicely despite
having the stock tires and suspension settings. Modern technology is
truly amazing. I am awestruck.

By the end of the day I was starting to feel like my old self again.
Reminded me of 1987, but without the crashes. It is amazing what a
bike will do for your mental health.

You may be a bit more skilled than your friend. We like the ZX-6R, but it simply cannot motor an R1 on a long straight.

Enjoy your bike.

Although it WILL come out of the corners harder and set up for braking later. Those radial fronts are just plain wild.

Mosport is also a track where big, ahem "kahunas" can make a big difference with scary blind downhills, and good elevation changes. Kahunas can sometimes offset horsepower if you're willing to keep it pegged...

Great job on the bike, and welcome back!

Handles better and goes almost as fast as the R1. Teh 636 just feels like a faster bike, probably because I can get on the gas sooner and harder. Mosport is not a track that really tests brakes, so I'll have to report again after Nelson Ledges, Shannonvile, Cayuga or Pocono.

And Rob Lee, I didn't say I motored him. To clarify, I had no problem staying in his draft and then pulling out to pass at the end of the straight, as long as i was relatively close coming out of Moss Corner. In a heads up drag race, the greater bottom end and HP would have the R1 beating the 636 -- but those slight advantages blur on the track. Teh 636 is just that fast.

And btw, this is my first Kawasaki -- i don't have any particular favoritism, although I've only raced Hondas and Yams before I got the Kawi.

Of course, I won't argue that I'm more skilled!!!:D[8D]
