this what the reed valves do.

The reeds are a one way valve. Clean air is blown into the exhausts through them to improve emissions and they stop exhaust gas re-entering the system. They don't have any contact with the crank cases or oilways and the air is pumped up through 2 hollow dowels in the block. All part of the kleen air system
