Hey guys and girls just wanted to tell everyone to be careful out there. Last night i hit a deer and fucked the bike and my shoulder up. I only got one hand right now so to keep a long story short I only hit the deer at 35 or 40 and flipped over it. the bike runs but there is a lot of cosmetic damage. When I get a chance I will post some pics. Anyone know a good place to buy new or used parts?

man, sorry to hear that. i've been waiting to hear from you, so that we can ride. but i guess you won't be riding for a while. by the way, if you have full coverage insurance and it's obvious that you hit a deer, you should claim it. an accident is an accident even if you were the only one involved. as long as you weren't at fault. give me a call sometime.

A few riding buddies and I came VERY VERY close to doing the same thing. We were flying down a backroad just before dusk, and the two guys in front of me were all of a sudden all over the brakes, and I couldn't figure out why. They kinda drifted towards the center of the road, and I had time to brake slower and stay on the outside... or so I thought. I saw the reason they were braking all out... 2 deer crossing the road in front of them. I NARROWLY missed the last one, locked up both ends and nearly pitched it.

Glad to hear you are in relatively good shape regardless, and hope you get the bike back in shape and riding soon... thanks for the post. EBay is always a good source of bike parts, and there should be some local cycle salvage shops in your area to phone and see what they've got for your bike... best of luck.

Those dear wistles are the same as Kangaroo/livestock wistles that are readly avalible over here in AUS. Ive never used them but ive been told they do a fairly good job of making the animals turn around instead of bolting out in front of you. Only prob is they affect dogs and you cant really use them in built up area's cause you will set all the bloody mut's off :)

thanks for all the posts guys. Just want to let you all know
i have been reading them but my left shoulder is fcked up so i only got one hand to type with. Anyway bike runs but needs new rear subframe, front end (headlights are scratched but work), and fairings. Main frame is goos, gas tank has not one scratch and tach works with not one stripped wire. Well this is annoying typing with one hand so be safe everyone and keep your rubber on the ground.

Vehicle deer whistles have not been proven to eliminate or mitigate deer-vehicle collisions.

Scientific evidence claiming otherwise is non-existent. Pest-control devices are only partially regulated in the U.S., so scams abound.

Here's one article:

http://www.advance.uconn.edu/02111812.htm

My favorite part: one tested whistle generated sound beyond the frequency range deer can hear.

"The hearing range of white-tailed deer, the most common species in the United States, is between 2 kHz and 6 kHz, so the animal is not capable of hearing the 12 kHz signal."

Chalk up another victory for the scientific method over anecdotal evidence and urban legend.

Here's another quote, from another article:

" While manufacturers contend deer can hear the whistle up to a quarter mile away, no published research verifies the device's effectiveness. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety presented evidence refuting claims promoting the whistles..."

Love it. Sucker born every minute and two to take 'em, I figure.

You mean they are FAKE!!!

Damn, returning mine to walmart today... :)

Have you ever tried beeping your horn at them? It doesn't work, they just freeze, or start coming towards you! I had this buck run right towards my car on skyline drive in VA. Scariest crap ever...no more beeping at deer for me.
