Hey all.
I have a 250r and recently changed the air box out for a stage 3 dna air filter kit, but now the bike will only run with the choke on, do I have to rejet the carbs?

Yep you have now opened yourself up to a huge headache getting the Fueling correct for them shite Pod filters.

This is not aimed at you Newb as these people rely on folks not realizing the implications fitting Pod/s.

They could at least include in the description below, Warning you will have to get the Bike jetted and set up on a rolling road to get the 12hp as your Bike will now suck far to much air and run lean as shite until you blow a hole in a piston/s or kill a plug or 2 !!
It maybe in the instructions but Blokes don't read instructions ;) and you've already brought them by then...

The DNA Stage 3 Kit, consists of a complete air box and filter, designed to replace the existing OEM air box, improve air circulation around the filter and air flow to the engine. Power increase up to 12 HP is common with the S3! The S3 includes all the necessary hardware and installation information.

So yes you need to rejet and to do it properly it needs to go on a rolling road to get the Fueling right across the rev range..............................More $'s

do I have to rejet the carbs?
Whenever you change how the bike breathes (intake or exhaust) you have to rejet the carbs.

you have now opened yourself up to a huge headache
For a DIY'er with no experience, no A/F meter, and no dyno it really is a pain in the ass to pull the carbs and play musical jets. Trying one after another and asking people on the internet their opinion of what the DIY'er is seeing/experiencing. For an experienced tuner with a dyno and a/f meter it's much easier and quicker.

I agree that aftermarket performance parts not listing rejetting or tuning by a professional as a required part of installation is problematic. But in fairness, when you start customizing things it's really on the customizer to figure out all what they need when they start throwing various things together.

Ok so does anyone know what jet kit to get?
And is there a backyard way of tuning the carbs?

sounds like badd gunny gas from seting long time try fuel injection cleaner the idle circut boesnt have jets only a screw and mid range the needle in the slider and top end has jetts inside the float bowel the mid range has 5 settings on the needle you pull out slider from top of casrb remove c clip and make needle come up sooner you should pull spark plugs and look at the color on plug it should be coffee brown with creamer but as far as filter pods forget it they do not help at all use stock air box and buy a k and n filter element for your bike then you will feel the diference you need stock air box to equalize the carbs it helps and you should sync carbs but before you can sync you need to make sure no tight valves that will throw everything off check valve lash aka clearences stay safe have fun life is short
