if you just added a bolt-on, its not neccessary, but its never a bad idea.
A bolton is still restriced by the headers and feeder pipe coming into it, so it can only change the flow so much.
I would do it when you can afford it, but it should not cause any HP loss or damage in the meantime.
If you notice some flatspots after its installed, then you'd want to get it done (or if you bike shoots fireballs like my buddies does after putting on a full system) hehe
