O.K. now, this break in period listed in the book AND on the bike is driving me insane! 4000RPM for 500 MILES?!?!? and 6000RPM for the next 500 MILES?!?!? My silver 03' 636 ROCKET WANTS TO GO!!!! and lord knows I want to give her hell, but I've been good so far, 160 miles on the clock and she's only been to 5000RPM a couple of times. How important is the break-in for a Kawa? Do I really have to lollygag around for 1000Mi. before I light up the afterburners and give the local Sheriff a reason to live?
Please help, I think I'm going insane [)]
I'm goin' thru the same problem...I really wanna twist my wrist but my dealer told me that I should follow the break in to ensure proper engine performance...I've got about 250 miles so far...and to be honest, I've revved up to 6000 several times and my bike seems to fine...I guess if we don't follow the break in period, we'll find out sooner or later what will happen...but as for now I sometimes let my 03 636 go juss a lil' over the break in limit...it wont hurt it that much...
when i picked up my bike on thursday the dealership mechanic did a short walkthough with me. he said itll be fine as long as u keep it under 8000 rpm. and he said not to hold it at that rpm. chech this page out, its on the main page of the forum.
Good job. run it like you plan to... just get the oil changed soon before you get too many miles on it.... i think that this is far more important than the rev limits that the mfgr speaks of. have fun

Dont plan on more than about 55MPH for 100Mi or so.
