First off, let me say this...congrats on the bike. The most important thing is that you got a ninja and that you are happy with it.

Now if you want a no bull shit opinion about how much you paid for it...I think you got pretty much ripped off. 7000 for a used bike with 2300 miles on it is only about 500 off what a brand new one cost with no miles on it. Also the comment that they dealer "thinks" it might be a limited addition is BS. Its just another way to make you think that 7000 dollars is a good deal.

The only thing you are missing out on by not getting a 9R, would be about 2000 more dollars and a second (if not less) on race times. Thats about it.

But I'm happy for you and I hope you have a great time on your ninja! They are GREAT bikes!!!

I'd offer him 6200 highest and see what they come down to. The 02 is a great bike, but that's way too much in my opinion seeing as I paid around 6800 for mine brand new and around 7400-7600 out the door. Good luck to you and hope it goes well.

I'm buying a used 2002 ZX6R for $7,000 out the door. The bike only has 2,300 miles and was supposedly bought at an auction. The bike looks super clean, has a red windscreen, with grey & Red seats and runs good.

1) Is $7,000 a good price?
2) Were there any Limited edition ZX6R's produced in 2002 (according to sales guy, it might be a limited edition version)?
3) I was set on buying a new ZX9R, am I missing out on anything by going with the ZX6R? If so, what and why?

I haven't committed yet, but the bike looks and runs really good. Advice will be greatly appreciated. Feel free to e-mail me your advice at [email protected]

I paid $7000 out the door for my '02 in February w/ 0 miles on it.

As far as I know, there are still more leftovers around to be had if you're looking for one.

PS -- mine's a rare Limited Edition '02.... but only because I made it that way ;) and that's the only way you'll get one too. I'd find a reputable dealer who actually knows his shit..... God forbid you have any future probs w/ the bike, think of the song and dance THAT guy will be capable of.

I love my 02. I paid 7500 OTD including taxes etc for a brand new one. However, if you have the dough, I would buy the zx9. The extra power and ability to do light touring more than offset the extra weight. The 9 pulls like a mother and handles great too. They make a great looking silver for 03.

Expect to pay more though.

Either way, you will get a great bike.

I offered $6,500 OTD and was turned down, I haven't commited, it is a beautiful bike, but I don't want to get ripped. I wish I had discovered this site before I went shopping for a bike.

I was set on the ZX9R, but after riding the 6R, I feel that the trade off in power is not as significant as the difference in maneuverability. It is still a powerful bike with pretty good pick-up. It is only going to be a weekend toy, so I will go with saving some $$$, but I am going to make a counter offer.

Thanks guys for your input so far, it has been very helpful; please keep it coming.

I have to agree with what's been said. Shop around for a better deal. You can pick up a brand new '03 ZX-6R for $7000 + tax, title, license so $7000 OTD on a used '02 is outrageously high. If I were going used, I personally wouldn't pay more than $5500 for a mint low mile '02.

everyone is right... i personally would not buy a used bike from a dealer just cuz the prices are outragous.. buy from an individual...i bought a 2001 yellow zx6r with 1200 miles on it(completly stock) I only paid $5000 from an individual... i would look on this site.. i have seen many good deals for 2000-2002 6r's.. good luck..

7000 seems really damn high. I bought my 01 brand spanking new for 7300, taxes included. And I put the 1st mile on test riding it. But money isn't important as long as you are happy with your bike.

Life is short, but sweet for certain...

Well guys, I didn't pay $7,000 but I did end-up paying a little more than I wanted to pay. I guess I really wanted that particular bike. They just wouldn't budge down to my offer. I am happy, I was really set on buying the 9R, I love the way this one handles, but I miss the extra power and feeling that extra weight between my legs. I think I will eventually get used to this one, it is a great bike. Could it be the fact that I am in Cali? I couldn't find anything reasonably priced anywhere out here, dealer or private.

Plus, had I bought the 9r I couldn't chat on this site with you guys. Could I now?....

Thanks for your advice.

I live in San Diego and found a few dealers that understand how to be price competitive.

Also, if you had gotten a 9, we would still love you and perhaps envy you!

get the 9r. more torque!!!

ZX-9R ('02) 8/02
Rear wheel HP= 129.0 @ 10,500
""Torque= 75.9 @ 8250 /
wet lbs= 469
/dry= 439

ZX-6R ('01)
Rear wheel Hp= 95.2 @ 12,500
torque=?
wet 435
Dry 406

thats from sportrider.com all i could find was an 01 6r. torque is likely to be about 32 to 35 ft/lbs more on the 9r. thats what youre really gonna feel. big ass wheelies.

There are no special edition 02's that I have ever heard of. And yes, generally bikes are more expensive in CA. Not that I've ever been there but I've read that in lots of places on the net. Enjoy the new ride [8D].
