I was looking at buying a 2003 6 but a relative of mine went to take a look at it today and said there was an odd tick (or something like that) coming from the engine. Now hes a cruiser guy, and is used to the sound of a Vtwin, not an I-4 but it concerns me because I can't see/hear the bike for myself. The bike was stunted so there could be excessive wear on the engine but I'd really like to know if the tick is just something normal for those bikes? I knew my old GS500 had a clunk that was just harmless camshaft endplay, but on this bike I can't tell.

ticking on these engines is normal

but umm,,,i wouldnt buy a bike if i knew it was stunted. u dunno for sure just how bad the abuse was. would suck if u found out the "ticking" was something inside the engine

Yeah, I have a 2005 ZX6-R and it ticks as well. It only has 3K miles on it. Also, the exhaust pops from the Two Bros dual exhaust.
It sounds like the 4th of July all the time.
If it's been stunted take it to a dealer or mechanic to check the shocks, tranny, motor, etc.

Yes. When the bike is idling in the driveway at first startup, the ticking and mechanical noise is mostly what I hear from 30 feet away.

just bought a red 03 kawasaki zx-6r today
$5k. 12k, scotts, yosh slip on, HID, sato rearsets, sato frame slider, others...
didn't even get a chance to ride it yet it was delivered by a friend, cant wait to take it out tomorrow morning i'll post some pics tomorrow as well

mine ticks every now and then ( it likes to surprise me ) and yeh dont buy a stunter..

hi, iv got an 03 it ticks aswell also ya hear the gears whirring. the engines are good,use quality oil.

kawi's in general are noisy engines, they always sound like there gonna fall apart but at 31k on mine, its still running good lol.

never heard ticking from mine, though the rest of it makes noises like an up-and-coming pornostar.

I would never buy a bike thats been stunted on. Most of those guys (no offense) are clowns and they ruin the god damn bikes....I hate seeing it
