I have a '95with about 18,000 miles on it. I plan on replacing the chain at 20,000. You might want to consider going to a 520 chain. It will knock off a couple of pounds with very little down side. People are running 520 chains on liter bikes so it will easily handle 600s. They only real down side is that rear sprockets or available only in aluminum.
I am going to use a D.I.D. x-ring chain with a Renthal 15T front sprocket and a Sprocket Specialist 39T hard anodized aluminum rear.
If you are in to wheelies you can also change the gearing to make it easier. As you can see I actually went the other direction.
