Has anyone else done this? Does it hinder ventilation? Can I place mesh in front of the radiator to protect it?

I have an 89' and there are 4 rectangular openings in the upper and lower fairing in which I inserted some gutter screen into. It's similar to an aftermarket car or truck grill and it looks pretty cool. This will be my only cosmetic mod since I'm going for the "tight stock" bike setup.

i did this to my 03, not in the front but on the sides where the crankcase and the stator covers are. it looked cool and all but was a bitch to put on. im constantly taking my fairings off and on and it can be a pain in the ass trying to put it back in. but it did give my bike a diffrent look.

if you put in front of the radiator, i doubt it will hinder bentilation. its good to protect from bigger rocks hitting the radiator. as far as for the farirngs, i dont really see a use for it other than make a hassle to put off and on when working on the bike

I've seen this mesh advertised on sa website ---cannot remember which one though. I would like to put something upto protect my radiator. How does the mesh come ---cut to fit or already designed per model???

Thanks
Paul

Damn old topic, sorry for kicking..

I have this too. Titanium mesh in the fairing openings. Installation is not that hard if you use aluminium. Titanium is a little harder to do, but it looks very cool!
If people are interested, i'm willing to make a how to (did it already for another forum

it will not hurt airflow at all. i've been racing cars with it over the radiators for a long time now... oh, you can pick up the aluminum version at any good hardware store.

voronwe, here in the states, we call that "expanded metal" you can pick it up at any metal supplier for around $60.00 for a 4'X 8' sheet. the other stuff is a lot tighter and thinner, more like a screen door, you can get that in small pieces at a hardware store.

60 bucks?
expanded is probaly a better word, the material is indeed not woven.

Whow, I'm glad I got it from someone! I've got titanium expanded metal, probaly a lot more expensive then! ;)

I glued it to the fairing, tape didn't stay in place (titanium is hard to shape). From the inside it doesn't look so nice, but is not noticeble from the outside!

This is how it looks on my bike, the photo quality is not good (bit to dark) so the colour of the titanium is way much better irl

sorry Tony, but Home Depot is my mortal enemy. their philophsy is; move into town, piss customer service out the window, and undercut everyone so hard that it puts them out of business. now they have moved into my(rental) industry and are doing the same thing. unless you really like sponsoring Tony Stewart everytime you shop there(and not getting your decal on the car..) i would suggest a local knowledgeable hardware store;)
