I customized the rear fender and took of the big UFO blinkers from the rear and bought 6" Custom LED strips from Auto Zone. I mounted them to the passenger foot peg brackets with adhesive backing and then wired them into the wiring harness for the rear blinkers. They're really bright and can be seen with no problem.

Consider this before going the cheap route. I have had LED turn signals and brake lights in my passenger footpegs since 2006 on my 2006 ZZR600 with no issues. Got them done by tripageled.com. I have three red LED's and three amber LED's in each footpeg. They use telephone wire for the LED's. Green and white go to the turn signals and red and black go the brake lights. Very clean install on the pegs and they RTV seal the back to keep the water out. They can install any number of LED's in your passenger footpegs.
