According to the Oct issue of SportRider the ZX6R 2000 and 2002 models are "basically identical." The article conducted a comparison of older vs. newer 03 models of the R1s and 6Rs. Describes many of the upgrades dating back to 1995. SportRider made practical modification that are within budget (yah right) to the older model which yielded exceptional gains. I won't spoil the article. Totally recommended adding to the library list.

Hey NoFear,
thanks for the info.
too bad I stopped subsribing to sprot rider for a while, when I had my bike in storage....

On a side note: I do know the 96 Zx6r is almost identical to the 95 zx6r.
But it has 2mm larger forks up front, and one or two other minor changes...

Measured at different times under different conditions, yadda yadda.

There are no differences of import between those years. Pick the color/graphics scheme you like and call it good.
