If you are installing a 94-97 zx9r motor in a 96-03 zx7r you can use a zx7r exhaust system, but it will have to be a aftermarket system. You will NOT be able to use your factory exhaust.

Two things come into play. First off, even if you wanted to use the zx9 exhaust, you cannot because the 9 exhaust does not let the radius of the radiator clear. On the 7 exhaust the two center down pipes are offset further back closer to the motor to make room for the radiator. Second, you cannot use the factory 7 exhaust because the exhaust bolts on the cylinder head on the 9 motor are all horizontal unlike the 7r which the two center exhaust bolts are setup diagonal from each other and the mounting plates on the factory 7 exhaust are welded on so you cant rotate them. I bought a full Yoshi system for my 9 swap. See photos.

Yes, spacing is identical, but the studs are not on the 96-03 7s. Only the 94-95 zx7r mach the 9r port and stud space because they are the same head.
