I was told that it was against the law to have unmatched numbers from vin to engine. What do people do when their engine goes bad. I wanted to buy a used engine on ebay, should I worry about the numbers not matching? I was told that the police could impound my bike if the numbers didn't match.
Any thoughts on this?

the numbers match (Sort of) They aren't the same at all, But Kawasaki can look into their records and give you your engine number from your VIN, And I assume can look up a VIN from an engine number. I've never heard of there being a problem with swapping engines though, People do it all the time.

Not having matching numbers isn't a big deal like VH said. Only thing that could get you in any trouble is if the motor you get is stolen and they trace the numbers.

Before you buy an engine, I would have the engine number checked to make sure it isn't stolen. That would be a shitty surprise.
