might be a bad battery, or you might have a short somewhere.
Do you have an alarm or tailight integrator? one of those could cause a short if not hooked up right.

Try getting a test light, see if there is a drain when the bike is off, if so, narrow it down to find the cause.

My old 99 used to have a very similar problem. It was the stator...replaced under warranty and eas fine after that. First they gave me a new battery (also free), but that wasn't the prob.

Hi fellow zxers,

I have a 2002 ZX6R j and cannot keep the battery charged. I ride it two or three times a week.
It was OK last year when it was brand new but now will not hold charge.
I ride with lights on always but surely the bike sgould be able to cope.

Fantastic bike otherwise. Love the new ZX and nice to see it top of the pile.

Gonna defect to a blade though if this carries on.

Gizza reply peeps.

I'm with CdnNinjaZX6R on this.
First take your bike back to a dealer for a warranty inspection for the problem. They will probably give you a new battery first just like they did for Grunt.
Good Luck
