GASKET ON PIPE? HELP

603 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  jcarey
Kawasaki.com shows a metal "sleeve" that might be considered a gasket. It slides over the header pipe end and the slip on portion of pipe actually slides over this gasket then cranks tight with the included clamp. The part number is #11061-0023 (gasket, muffler connecting) if you need to get a new one, but maybe he's right, it might be stuck in your slip on connector. Try fishing your finger inside the slip on portion of pipe and pulling it out. I'm assuming that you loosened the slip on clamp off completely before you wiggled the system off... if you didn't, maybe it's still stuck tight inside that portion of pipe at the joint under the clamp?

Good luck with it. Check out the diagrams at www.kawasaki.com - link to motorcycles, then vehicle information, then parts diagrams, and search for your bike. The proper heading will be "muffler"... you'll see what the thing should look like there...

There should be a crush gasket on each pipe where it goes into the head. If it didn't come out on the end of the pipe it is probably in the head. It is best to use a new gasket.
I BOUGHT A MICRON HIGH MOUNT FOR MY 636. WHEN I REMOVED THE FACTORY PIPE FROM THE BIKE I DID NOT SEE A GASKET. WHEN I PUT THE NEW PIPE ON THERE WAS A LOT OF GAP THAT NEEDED TO BE CLOSED UP WITH THE CLAMP. WHEN I TIGHTENED THE CLAMP COMPLETELY THE PIPE WAS NOT TIGHT TO THE BIKES PIPE. SO I CALLED MICRON TECH SUPPORT, AND TOLD THE GUY (BRUCE) MY PROBLEM. HE SAID THAT THERE IS A GASKET THAT SHOULD HAVE STAYED ON THE END OF THE BIKES PIPE WHEN I SLID THE FACTORY ONE OFF. BUT THERE WASN'T. WHEN I FEEL WITH MY FINGER ON THE INNER PART OF THE END OF THE FACTORY PIPE,,,I CAN FEEL A LIP, BUT IT SURE AS HELL DOESN'T LLOK LIKE A GASKET OR ANYTHING!

WAS WONDERING IF ANY ONE ELSE WHO HAS REMOVED THERE PIPE FROM A 2003 636 SEEN A GASKET ON THEIRS?

IF ANYONE HAS ANY OTHER RECOMMENDATIONS ON HOW TO FIX THIS MINOR PROBLEM,,,LET ME KNOW PLEASE.:)
