I recenlty layed my bike down and have since then ordered a new generator cover. I tried changing it out but the screws on the inside are impossibble to remove. Therefore I am stuck with the scrathched cover until I can unscrew them. May be they don't come off? I am talking about the TORX screws in paticular. Any one done this before. Tips could be of big help.
I recently put a hole in my generator cover. I just got a NRC cover to replace the stock one. I will be doing what you are doing in a couple of days. The screw come out according to the service manual did you use a ratchet with a torx bit?
Yeah, I tried that. I also tried soaking the screws over night with WD-40 and still no luck. I have tried it so smuch that I have messed up the screws a little. I still can get a good grip on them but no luck yet.
You need a TORX bit that you can attach to a 10" ratchet, thats the only way it will come out. They use that red locktite crap in it.
The best thing to do is get a set of TORX bits and use a socket that fits the bit and attach it to a ratchet. I don't remember but you may need a socket extention or a longer socket.
these should have locktite on them, so use heat....propane/mapp gas torch to heat......... then use a torx bit - that should work..... ...give'em a good blastin' and then have a go
