Getting going

803 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  arturo3rd
I just got out of the MSF course last weekend and I am having a problem. I have never driven anything with a clutch before. I can not go up a hill from a stop for shit. Can someone try to explain to me how to do it?

Same way you'd start out normally except you want to keep your right foot gently holding the rear brake so you don't roll backwards when you let go of the front brake. Gradually release the rear brake as the bike begins to move forward as you slip the clutch out and giv it more revs. Don't rev too high or release the clutch too fast or you'll stall or, if you dump the clutch, you could loop it [:0]. Find a slight incline that's out of the way of traffic to practice on... you'll get the hang of it in no time.

from the stop find the friction zone in the clutch. like snotrocket said cover the rear brake in case it does roll backwards. once your rpms are high enough(i forget how high, 2-3k) you dont have to keep the clutch squeezed in. when you squeeze the clutch you kill all the power that is going to the back wheel. roll on the throttle like normal.
