Just picked up a Go Pro Hero 3 Silver Edition used.
Came with the camera, USB charger, and 8 GB SD card.

I'm interested in vlogging and want to set it up like this:

I'm a little confused as to what exactly I need. I'd rather ask and look like a dumbass than try it out on my own and buy unnecessary parts.

I know I need these:

Helmet front mount: Helmet Front Mount - GoPro Official Store: Wearable Digital Cameras for Sports
(anyone know if front mount above comes with curved adhesive tape? Looks like it does in the picture)
3.5mm mic adapter (any cheaper alternatives to buying the $20 on gopro website?)
A mic

Do I also need the skeleton housing found here:
HERO3 Skeleton Housing

Are there any cheaper (but still dependable) alternatives?

Any input/tips/advice would be great!
Thanks

Yes, you will need the skeleton housing if you want to use the external mic for recording your voice. However, with the camera mounted on the chin bar, it will pick up your voice without the external mic as well.

I would recommend just getting the helmet front mount to start out with. It's about $13 from GoPro: Helmet Front Mount - GoPro Official Store: Wearable Digital Cameras for Sports (that is the mount I use on my chin bar). Then, test out how it captures your voice with the solid and open backs on the GoPro, and then decide if you still need to get the external mic and skeleton housing or not.

I'll snap a picture of my set up in a bit and post it.

Gotcha I'll pick up a bigger SD card. Thanks

Strider,
I can't imagine that it will pick up my voice well with all that wind and my visor down. I'll have to try it out though.

Do you guys have any experience with any of the Go Pro housings/cases that aren't off the GoPro website? Like this one: Skeleton Protective Housing Case with Side Opening for GoPro Hero 3 Camcorder | eBay

How about cheaper 3.5 mm mic adapters? $20 for a mic adapter is ridiculous. Will any 3.5mm adapter work or does it have to be GoPro specific?

I don't want to be the negative one but before you start spending money on all kinds of stuff, use the camera and see how you like it.
I sold mine. I just wasn't into sitting and waiting for hours of video to download and then edit it.
32gb card is a good idea but the battery will go dead before you fill it up.
I would rather have multiple cards. Even then I would turn the camera on and off to get various clips of riding.
Sorry but I've tried using the go pro in other things than riding(non porn:eek:) and other than a few good vids for my own benefit, one ride looks like any other. But that's just me.
good luck

Yeah I've been messing around with it & trying to get a feel for it before I buy anything.
Thanks for the advice EZ. Definitely gonna check out that thread & see what everyone had to say.
I'd prefer a Drift, but it's a little out of my price range. The Go Pro I got was too good of a deal to pass up.
I imagine the fisheye lens works well with all porn vids though haha. But seems you wouldn't know about that...
Hope sin city is treating you well.

I don't have any experience with those other housings. You can get cheaper mic adapters on ebay: Microphone Adapter for GoPro Go Pro Hero 3 Mini USB to 3 5mm Jack | eBay
