think i have worked it out....with a little help from my friends
when i was washing it water was runnin into the spark plug ports as they have a rubber seal this shouldnt have been a problem but good old british weather had rotted 2 of these seals and water was gettin into the ht leads creating a poor spark
new leads now and the problems gone
time to go n play :D

I had the same problem with my old 1990 GPZ900R. I ended up getting high temp resistant silicone and sealing the ports properly by covering the rubber seals about 5mm further out than the seals went. I never had the problem again after that, and when it came time to change the plugs, you just peel off the silicone.
