all my life i have never given a thought to riding a gravel road. but i have never had a faired bike like a ninja 400. how much does a gravel road tear up all those fairings? do most of you stay off gravel roads or do you ride them whenever you want to?
thanks, bob noffs

well, where im from, gravel roads are called dirt roads. i can ride my bikes like dirt bikes on them, most people are scared of dirt on a street bike. it will chip up the paint towards the bottom fairings, plus, it will put a dust coating on your chain. which is not good.

I've done it to get where I needed to go, but not on a regular basis. Buk is right, it kicks up a lot of dust, but I wouldn't be worried about chipping up the bottom of the fairing. There's enough loose rocks, etc. on paved roads that small chips are inevitable.

I'd personally be more concerned with the tires not being designed for gravel. You can still do it, I've ridden on gravel, but coming down a gravel driveway, it's easier to start sliding.

Typical ABS plastic is fairly easy to work with and fill in, and on the bottom side its unlikely anybody is going to notice some dings.

Actually, gravel roads can be enjoyable. Riding a gravel road with a gravel bike and good tire can be an enjoyable and exciting experience. Gravel bikes are designed to handle rough terrain and provide a comfortable ride, while gravel tires are built to provide maximum traction and stability on loose surfaces. When riding on a gravel road, you can expect to encounter a variety of terrain, including loose gravel, rocks, sand, and dirt. The key to a successful ride is to maintain balance and control by using your body weight and adjusting your tire pressure accordingly.
Gravel riding can be challenging, but it's also a great way to explore new routes and enjoy the outdoors. With the right equipment and technique, you can tackle any gravel road with confidence and enjoy the ride.
