I heard about hard shifting, ie. shifting without using the clutch, and I am wondering if this is a racing only technique. Will it put to much wear on my transmission? And is this the technique that you use for shifting into 2nd at the apex of a wheelie?

Step 1-Twist handle
Step 2-Hold on!

I shift without using the clutch in all the gears except for 1st-2nd when I drag race.

Most other times I use my clutch.

It's actually pretty easy. Press up and preload the gear sfiter with some pressure, blip it, press up more, schnick, gear is changed.

I always use my clutch downshifting.

I only use the clutch when downshifting. But You should take cambridges advice about using the clutch when going from 1-2nd I never used to but one time i took it past red line and shifted into second with no clutch and I slightly bent the forks in the trans. I still won the race though!

With great freedom, comes great responsibility.
